Actually, students in China have a choice for their college entrance exam, as for students for science which include physics, chemistry, biology and students for liberal arts which include history, geography and politics. Students have to choice what they want to study on second year of senior high school, it will affect their major in college because they need to choose the major when applying for a college. If your scores are good enough, you will be accept by the major you have choose for the college, but if your scores are not good enough, the college have possibility to let you into other majors which you couldn't choose, otherwise, you will not be accepted by the college.
Normally, you have to think carefully when you choose which way you want to go with in high school, science or liberal arts. Besides that, Chinese college entrance exam include Chinese, Math, which are known globally for its hard and strict, English, and Science synthesis or Liberal arts synthesis.
For each province, they have a totally different education system and the tests questions are different either. As for Beijing, we use the National volume 1, and students have to choose the school before they took the exam. This is the other challenge we need to face. We don't know how well or how bad we gonna do during the test. If you applying for the school that you think you are good enough to get into, but you are too nervous during the test and failed on the test, then you are failed. You may not have school to accept you, and it depends on your second college choice. College has two round for accepting students, if the school don't have enough students during the first round, which is accepting the students who choose the school for their first choice and also meet their required scores, the school are going to have the second round for accepting the students who choose the school for their second choice and not being accepted by their first choice school.
Students not only have to face the extremely stressful on the tests, but also have to face the stress to choose the right school.
I was born and raised in Beijing, surrounding by lots of best college in China. I always face another stressful thing that students from other province will judge students in Beijing that they get a better chance to get into better school, because they think college in Beijing will accept them by a lower scores than other province, WHICH IS NOT!
We all have a different education system and we take the different tests on the college entrance exams, the full scores are different, so you can't say, students in Beijing got a 600 out of 700, and students in other province got a 680 out of 800, the students in other province should have accepted by the college in Beijing because they have a better scores.
After 2013 college entrance exam, I heard all of my classmates in China complained that choosing a college and major is much harder than the exam. Even though they know the score, they don't the score that college will accept them.
回复删除In Zhejiang Province, our full score is 750 (if you want to go to the first university, the full score is 810.)This year, for example, my previous high school only has one student going to study in Qinghua University. His score on the exam is 735 out of 810,the third place in Jinhua.
I feel that a lot of Chinese children have it tough as their parents push them for academic excellence which puts a ton of stress on these young children and some even end up taking their own lives due to all the stress and pressure. I feel parents should just be there for their child and not push them. Simply guide them and help them not make them feel as if they don't succeed you will look down upon them and be disappointed.
