How do Chinese education system runs

Since i have been to United States for almost 2 years, i have faced so many questions that relate to why i came to America. To be honest, the only reason i came here is not only to get a better education, but also avoid the Chinese college entrance exam. Now you can see how dare it is.

Every year, there's over XXXX students attend this college entrance exam to get into college. There's 4 subjects conclude in this exam, Chinese, Math, English and a combined subject that depends on student's choice in the high school, which can be geography, history and politics combined together, and physics, chemicals, shegnwu together. Since this is the only way to do it, not only the students get nervous about it, but also their parents put all the heart on it. Every year, there's only one chance for student at the age to register for the tests.

Every people in China knows why they have to be in a better primary school, because if they get into a better primary school, they will have a better education that can lead them to a better junior and high school, which will make them have a better chance to get into a better college.

  1. That sounds enormously stressful! Do you think there is any benefit to the high stakes? What do other Chinese students think? ... and what resources will you use to examine this subject?

    1. Chinese students have no choice, they can only study harder to get into a better college and not disappoint their parents. I don't think there's any benefit because student are taking classes that are not related to what their careers in the future which can only make them stressful. I will normally based on my own experience and some other sources from New York Times.

  2. Yikes, here you usually only need to apply to get into most colleges. I am actually trying to get into nursing school and I'm finding that to be tough enough. I'm wondering if you could actually find some sample questions and maybe post those? Then we'll see if I'm as smart as I think I am.

    1. I'm started to thinking that it's because China has more populations than America. Students need to study harder to compete with other students so that they can get into better school. If you face into that situation which you need to compete with hundreds of people, you will be smarter than you think :) It forced you to be smarter.

  3. That is so sad, I hope one day students will have an equal chance of success. It is so unfair that the standards are vastly different. Like Wesley, I agree that school here seems like a picnic.

    1. Chinese government think the system is really fare to each students so that they don't think there's any way to be better than this. Students have no choice either, they can't fight for it. I guess they will not change the exam system but for the college, i hope they will not only depends on the scores, but also take a look at the personal statement or things like that.

  4. I think that the situation is similar with Korean's. I also have experienced the stressful situation and taken a college entrance exam. I understand your decision. Also, when I have studied in China to learn Chinese, some of my Chinese friends talked about the exam and how they were stressful. To improve your blog, I want to recommend you researching other countries' situation. It will be helpful to compare the education in China and others.

    1. The bad thing is that we can't change it and there's no way to change it.

  6. Oh wow! That seems like a lot of work just to get into high education! Also, what is Shegnwu? Do people have another chance to get into college if they don't get into it the first try?

  7. i was one of the "victims" of Chinese education system. After i came here, one thing i have to mention is that when you come back to school after weekend, people in chinese high school always ask you if you do your homewotk and you should hand in your homework immediately. However, i feel different here because teachers and friends ask you if you have a good weekend and how it is. It's just a example of the different betweeen chinese and american education system.
